Here’s what you need to know:


Before you vote, get registered and get ready.

Check your registration or get registered in one of the following ways: 

ONLINE: You can register right here on our site through Rock the Vote or at the Nebraska Secretary of State’s website.

BY MAIL: Download and print a voter registration form.

IN PERSON: Visit your County Election Commission office during normal business hours.

  • April 29, 2024, for the Primary
  • October 18, 2024, for the General

Register by mail by 

  • April 29, 2024, for the General
  • October 18, 2024, for the General

Register in-person by

  • May 3, 2024, for the Primary
  • October 25, 2024, for the General

Know how and when to vote

Protect the health of yourself and others. Vote by mail!

Voting by mail in Nebraska is easy and safe. Just complete an Early Voting Form and that will tell election officials to mail you a ballot when it's time. Track your ballot by visiting Nebraska's Voter Information Lookup website.

Early Voting Deadlines: 

Request your early ballot by

  • May 3, 2024, for the Primary
  • October 25, 2024, for the General

If you're mailing your ballot, do so before

  • May 7, 2024, for the Primary
  • October 29, 2024, for the General

If you're dropping your ballot in a drop box, do so before

  • May 14, 2024, at 8 p.m. CT for the Primary
  • November 5, 2024, at 8 p.m. CT for the General

First: Request your vote by mail ballot!

Option 1: 

Download and print an application from your County Election Commission.

Fill out the application and sign it.

Mail it or email a picture of your application to your County Election Commission.

Option 2: 

Make your own application to email your Election Commissioner! 

On a blank piece of paper write: your name, the address where you’re registered, your mailing address (if different), date of birth, phone number, email, and your signature.

Remember to write clearly and to sign it before emailing!

Next: Return your vote by mail ballot!

Fill out your ballot. IMPORTANT: Be sure to sign the back of the return envelope. This will make sure your vote is counted!

Mail it back to your Election Commission with a regular postage stamp.

Or

Place your ballot in an official drop box by 8 p.m. CST on Election Day. Drop box locations will be sent with your ballot. 

In-person Voting on Election Day

Polls will be open on Primary Election Day, Tuesday, May 14, and on General Election Day, Tuesday, November 5, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. CST. If you are in line when polls close, stay in line — you are still allowed to vote!

Your polling place may have changed! Find your polling place using Nebraska's Voter Information Lookup website.

Running into trouble confirming your voter registration at your polling place? A provisional ballot allows you to cast your vote in the event that an issue arises with your registration. You can simply request a provisional ballot from a poll worker! Common reasons why a provisional ballot may be used include being registered under an old address or not returning an early voting ballot.

You can request assistance when casting your ballot in a variety of ways, including language interpretation, curbside voting, use of a ballot marking device or teletypewriter, or further in-person help. If you require assistance of any kind, let poll workers. 

Beginning April 1st, 2024, Nebraska voters will be required to present an accepted photo identification in order to vote.
