As the largest nonprofit statewide disability membership nonprofit organization in Nebraska, the Arc of Nebraska leads the charge in advocating for individuals and families with intellectual and developmental disabilities who want respect, dignity, and inclusion in their Nebraska communities. Their wide-reaching network takes on these efforts with compassion, lived experience, and expertise to ensure that every Nebraskan has the opportunity to thrive.

The Arc of Nebraska is a statewide nonprofit disability membership organization dedicated to advocating for individuals and families with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD), striving for respect, dignity, and inclusion within Nebraska communities. For over 70 years, the Arc of Nebraska has been a champion for the rights and full participation of children and adults with I/DD. With a network of 13,561 supporters and eight affiliated chapters across the state, the organization works to improve support systems, connect families, inspire communities, and influence public policy.

At the heart of the Arc of Nebraska’s work are the tireless advocates who show up every single day and may need additional resources. They support Nebraskans with disabilities by providing a free and accessible network of up-to-date service provider connections and a strong network of community activist groups. Educational training is at the root of their grassroots advocacy efforts. This year, focus has expanded on two key areas: civic engagement through accessible voting and increasing employment opportunities for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD).

Slashed federal funding has increased anxieties for the countless Nebraska families impacted by cuts to lifesaving programs. Through intentional civic engagement training and providing educational tools, the Arc of Nebraska helps to enable inclusive participation at the state and local levels to make voices heard on critical issues. The organization prioritizes providing in-person opportunities, regardless of where an advocate may live in the state, so that all Nebraskans can become familiar with their voting rights and engage in effective communication with state lawmakers. Looking ahead, the organization is working to launch strategic initiatives that directly align with Nebraskans’ commitment to supporting individuals with I/DD in entering or advancing within the workforce. Above all, the Arc of Nebraska is always dedicated to actively fighting for access to “the good life” for those with disabilities.

"Our accomplishments reflect the power of collective support and the importance of continuing this work. Thank you to every advocate, family, supporter, volunteer, and partner who stand with The Arc of Nebraska. With your help, we will continue to advance meaningful change and opportunity for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities across every corner of our state." —Makayla Bartels, Interim Executive Director and Disability Advocate
